WEBBIES

Thanks to the webbies we have an interesting website.  Their role is to update the website with information about topics, interesting visits made by children, visitors to the school etc. Parents can interact with the site via the link on the EGFL (Edinburgh Grid for Learning).

GROUNDS FOR AWARENESS

All children are involved in promoting the school environment.  With special support from learning assistants, children are encouraged to develop aesthetic awareness and opportunities for learning outdoors in our garden areas and in our fabulous grounds.

TRIBES

Recently the children from Nursery-P7 have been working in four tribes named after Scottish Islands – Canna, Benbecula, Skye and Jura.  They meet once a fortnight with staff and work on Global Citizenship, Website, Gardening and Eco Issues.  This gives an opportunity for children at all stages to work in collaboration on a project.

PARENTS/VOLUNTEERS IN SCHOOL

At Drumbrae we actively encourage parents to come to school, get involved in their child’s learning and take part in all school activities.

As well as your general interest, we are always grateful for practical help in the classrooms and at school outings.  If you have any spare time or skills to offer, please get in touch.

School and home working in partnership provides the best possible base for your child.

OUR PARENT FORUM

All parents of Drumbrae are members of the Parent Forum.

THE PARENT COUNCIL

Each primary, secondary and special school has the right to elect their own Parent Council.

The membership of our Parent Council comprises: parents (who will form a majority), school staff members and co-opted members (chosen to represent the community).  Local Regional councillors, representatives of the Authority and Head Teachers have a right to attend meetings but cannot be actual members.

The Parent Council has a variety of duties and functions including communication with parents and taking part in the appointment of senior staff of the school.  The Parent Council can ask the Authority to give them certain additional responsibilities.

A leaflet detailing the functions, membership and regulations governing Parent Councils is available from the Education Office.

SCHOOL HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS

Throughout your child’s years at primary and secondary school a team of specialist Health Service and Education staff will be seeing him or her as part of a planned programme to make sure that he or she benefits as much as possible from all that school has to offer, and to help prepare him or her for life after leaving school.  The school health service is part of the Community Child Health Service and has direct links with those who carry out health checks on children before they start school.

Many different services are provided.  The issue of maintaining confidentiality is taken seriously by the School Health Team at all times.  The staff involved make every effort to work closely with parents and with others who are caring for your child, both at school and in other branches of the Health Service.  Some of the services, eg. testing of vision in Primary 1, are normally provided to all children on a routine basis to discover which children may need further tests or treatment.  Parents are not necessarily notified at the time of these screening tests and any parent who does
