Eco Schools October - December 2006 We are very pleased to report that we have been awarded the Bronze Eco School Award. This is the first step towards gaining 'Green Flag' status. Well done to all involved! Grounds for Awareness 2006 August - October
Having created a garden area with raised beds and log seating, erecting picnic tables beside the trees and building willow tunnels and bird boxes in the previous two years. The school has now been awarded a grant to improve the entrance to the school.
Bulb planting on the grass area at the entrance to the school took place at the end of October thanks to Mrs Thomson for sourcing and purchasing the bulbs. A timetable was set up for planting with P7 helping their P2 buddies and P6 helping their P1 buddies. All children had the opportunity to plant bulbs throughout the day.
One of the P7 maths sets took responsibility for measuring the area to be planted and dividing it into equal sections. Classes came out and using dibbers dug out holes, planted a range of bulbs and pushed the earth back down. We now eagerly await the Spring to see how successful the planting has been.
In January “Earth Calling” are spending two days at the school helping to plant the Rowan and Cherry trees which are to border the driveway and path. They are also creating a raised bed around the existing tree for shrubs to be planted. With any remaining money further plants will be added to the raised beds.
