The council has no right to take over the school and drumbrae it is the best school in the whole world. I'm sure none of the pupils want it to close, nether do I. I have wrote a letter to the council and said.
PLEASE DO NOT SHUT IT DOWN.

I can't believe they're trying to shut this cool school down. Well they're getting a letter from me I've read all the news in the paper about this school and most of it is rubbish. I really hope it doesn't shut. Best of luck to all the teachers and pupils for the future. Fingers crossed. X

Hands off Drummie! Don't let the carpetbagger developers get their hands on it.
Mr Dunoon would have sorted them out!

I was lucky enough to work at Drumbrae for 5 years. The children were great and so were the staff. I really miss it. Hope everyone is well and has a well deserved break.

I liked this school when i went to it and that was only a year ago. I hope it stays open because it is a beautiful sight and it is a brilliant source of education. Above all if it shuts there will be a lot of packed schools, and nowhere to play, so if it shuts it'll be a disaster for EVERYBODY in Drumbrae. not just the kids at drummy.

I started P1 at Drumbrae in 1963 and in those days you had 2 intakes August and later in the year depending on your birthday. The P1 teacher always wore a cross over, full length apron. If you were naughty you were made to sit under her desk but if you were standing in the line when misbehaving then she would slap your calf- boy did that sting. I remember the school being very large with lots of children and the children having to play in a large shed when it was wet weather. The shed was in the large playground which also would develop a large puddle when it rained as the drain couldn't cope with all the water! In winter this puddle would freeze over and form a small icerink to everyones delight. Long slides, the length of the playground were very popular until the janitor came out with the salt! Another favourite activity was to give your friend an elephant ride which was to let them sit on your shoulders as you walked round the pole holding up the shed's roof. You would both hold onto the pole while doing this as you could get a bit dizzy. There was also a myth about the large angel which was a grave stone in the cemetery next door. The story was that she moved and haunted the school! When she was meant to have been observed moving by a pupil then great excitement would follow in the playground- all good spooky fun to scare the younger children! I also remember a music teacher who would get the class to sit and keep time by tapping their fingers together quietly. She would then leave the room to return a few moments later and whoa betide the child who was no longer keeping the correct beat with his fingers. I remember she had a brown music briefcase with a thin metal bar which held it closed. She also plaited her hair into a long plait which she wound round her hairline. She was very scary as a teacher and did nothing for my musical talent!

Did you know that Drumbrae first opened its doors to pupils from Parsons' Green Primary School, which went on fire and was totally destroyed in the winter break of 1958? Pupils were transported from four different locations including Meadowbank and Piershill right up until the summer of 1959. I was one of them.
